And you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share the nourishing sap from the olive root, Romans 11 v17
Baptists for Israel is just a web site. (at present)
Hopefully it will develop into a rallying point and, perhaps, a cyber community, for Britain's Baptists who want to see our fellowships doing the right thing; and for mutual encouragement.
Baptists for Israel has no intention of undermining in any way the excellent kingdom work being done in Baptist fellowships in Britain and around the world. Neither will it diminish the importance of mission around the word that is being carried out by Baptists.
Baptists for Israel aims to reclaim for Baptists an important area of Bible belief that appears to have been lost.
We trust in the integrity of the Bible as the word of our unchanging God; a revelation of his nature, his purposes and promises progressively revealed from Genesis to Revelation. God's “forever” promises and covenants are still “forever”, including the promise to Abraham recorded in Genesis 12, where the LORD had said to Abram,
"Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
This passage contains vital truths
"I will make you into a great nation” This promise passed down through Isaac, the child of promise, to Jacob whose name was changed to Israel.
" I will bless you I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing ” Carry on reading Genesis to see how this was fulfilled.
”I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse"; This statement of intent, passed on to Jacob/Israel is vitally important advice for all who revere the God of Abraham. The Hebrew word translated “bless” is the same in both cases – in the measure that we bless Israel we will be blessed by God. The Hebrew words translated as “Curse” are drastically different. The meaning is that those who scorn Israel or treat him disrespectfully will be cursed by God (the meaning is similar to being spewed out)
“and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." A check through the Nobel prize winners and outstanding figures in Science and Medicine and Culture will reveal a totally disproportionate number of Jews. But towering above all these is the Jewish rabbi from Nazareth – who we know as Jesus Christ, our saviour.
Being for Israel may mean different things for different people :-
Believing that the rebirth of Israel was the fulfilment of prophecies including Ezekiel 37 and that Israel will be involved in the still awaited fulfilment of other prophecies
Believing that Israel is relevant to our Christian faith.
Believing that the Bible calls us to actively seek to do something to further God's desires for Israel.
Being open to the possibility that the truth about Israel, from God's perspective, is not the same as that portrayed in the secular media.
Those who believe this way are commonly called Christian Zionists.
There is a vocal body of opinion opposing Christian Zionism, even though not all Christian Zionists hold the same views.
Because of the controversy we have delayed introducing the term. We prefer to encourage Baptists to search the scriptures concerning Israel in order to form their opinions instead of adopting a ready made package.
We are grateful to David Pawson for his adherance to and advocacy for this principle concerning Israel. His new book is true to this, although it had to be produced in the form of a reply to opposition towards Christian sympathy for Israel. - Highly recommended!
